Observed a small finch-like bird perched quietly on an exposed twig in open scrub/plantation edge habitat in Wayanad. The bird showed a slender, conical bill typical of seed-eating finches. Plumage was pinkish-crimson on the head, throat, and upper breast, gradually fading into paler pink and buff on the lower underparts. The upperparts and wings were brownish with subtle darker feathering, lacking any green tones. The bird had a slim body structure and upright posture, unlike the bulky build and thick bill of barbets.
This species is a rare and irregular winter visitor in Wayanad, making the record notable. Shot on @sonyalpha#sonya7iv with the #sony200600
